10 Steps to Fulfillment--Step #10 The Sixth Mystical Law--The Greatest Law of All---The Law of Love

Love is timeless. But is it merely a concept, or is it an actual qualityof substance and reality. Modern science has found a way to measure love with psychological research and highly sensitive electronic equipment.

Dr. Pitrim Sorokin, one of the world's leading sociologists, conducted just such research. He was the author of a profound book, The Ways and Power of Love. Dr. Robert interviewed Dr. Sorokin and had some remarkable insights regarding love.

The most probable factor of the greater longevity of the saints appears to be a superabundance of their unselfish love to God, to neighbors and to all living creatures. Criminals and those filled with hate, animosity and aggression, as a rule have much shorter life spans. Today's psychosomatic medicine confirms these conclusions by a sufficient body of evidence showing that many forms of illness are caused mainly by disorderly, hateful, angry and inimical emotions and actions.

Dr. Sorokin states that there are five dimensions of love.

First, its intensity, which obviously is higher in such love actions as sacrificing one's life for another than in the act of giving a few cents to the poor.

The second dimension of love is its extensity. Or, over how many persons or living creatures your love extends.

The third dimension is love's duration. How long does it last.

The fourth dimension is love's purity. Is it love for the sake of love without any consideration of advantages or disadvantages.

The fifth dimension is adequacy of love. To what extent do the expected results of love actions coincide with their objective consequences.

Love can be measured by an EEG. When a yogi was asked to focus his expression of love on a disciple, the disciple's brain waves registered a definite response. This experiment shows that love is more than merely a concept of the human imagination or a simple inner feeling, that it is an actual energy, and that it is capable of eliciting a response in the one to whom it is directed.

Meditation, prayer and love affect body processes. This supersensory and suprarational energy seems to be the highest creative energy in man. It affects heart, lungs, and other important organs of our body.

Some conclusions:

1. The practice of love adds to the length of life.

2. Love has 5 dimensions.

3. Love can be spontaneous, aroused by catastophe, or

generated at will.

4. Love is best expressed by good deeds following the

Golden Rule and other moral and ethical precepts.

5. To be effective, love must be properly directed.

6. Love is an actual, scientifically measurable quality.

7. Love uses supersensory, suprarational energy.

8. Love improves bodily organs, especially heart & lungs.

9. Love is the highest creative energy in human beings.

10.Love is the most important field of scientific research.

Love is life's basic need. It is separated into two aspects....to be loved....and to love.

Love is magnetic. Love fulfills the law. The starting point is the Self. Extend the horizon of love. Love is another dimension of reality. Love is the discovery of Unity. One can perform no greater service for all mankind than to add a little more weight on the love side of the scale. Love is the essence of creativity.

If the adventure is infinite, it never ends. Those who continue to learn remain ageless. There is but one more point to bring this series to its fulfillment:

"...to thine own Self be true..."
